Anna Maia Zaitseva

Anna Maia is an artist based in Edinburgh whose work explores embodied landscape through expressive oil painting.

Anna Maia Zaitseva (b. 1994) is a Scottish artist based in Edinburgh working with paint to explore landscape through an embodied, physical experience of place.

Her work is shaped by direct physical encounters with remote environments, informed by her time living on the Isle of Skye. Working primarily with oil paint, Anna creates expressive layered paintings that explore the balance between abstraction and atmosphere - seeking to capture not what is seen but what is felt. Taking inspiration from Impressionism, Abstract Expressionism and Colour Field painting; Anna uses light, colour and emotion to inform the direction of her work letting the painting take shape on the canvas.

Anna holds an MA in History of Art from University of Glasgow, an MLitt in Curatorial Practice from Glasgow School of Art, and has studied painting at Leith School of Art. Alongside her painting practice, she founded an environmental arts campaigns and has curated exhibitions across Scotland.
